Hi Sarah,

our school became a Global Studies Magnet school about a year a go. We are in the implementation phase. We are by no means experts but we are looking at a couple of things that will help give our curriculum a more global approach. We are very interested in establishing long term partnerships with schools around the world. If you have a project in your school and want to do some collaboration feel free to contact me.

These are some of the ideas that our magnet program framework is utilizing to guide its development.
1. Teachers will address the four regions of the world through out the year. We are asking teachers to take a look at what they teach and seek to get different perspectives. One of the ways we hope to address the regions of the world is through partnerships with schools and organizations world wide. We are located in a northern suburb of Minneapolis but we have a very urban/diverse school.

2. We have three focus areas which will guide students' choices and eventually a capstone project in the senior year.

a. Global Change: Motivating or driving global forces of change, physical or social
b. Global Connections: Various connection between people, countries, societies and governments anywhere on earth
c. Global Technologies: Ways we apply knowledge to solve practical problems, especially in industry and commerce across the globe

We look forward to working with many teachers through this site and others.

Hello professor,
I am looking forward to making connections with teachers around the globe. I am teaching "The Kite Runner" and I would love to get in touch with a teacher in Afghanistan.

Dr. McPherson,
I have just tried to show the power of social networking and building relationships around the world by creating a free Voicethread account for people to upload photos from their region and to comment on them. Details below:
Yesterday I created a free Voicethread Pro account at http://voicethread.com/ with a username(e-mail) of: vteducator@gmail.com and password: voicethread.
If anyone can go, log in and then upload an area picture from where you live with a comment that would be great! Trying to show the power of social networking as well as one way to use Voicethread to teachers here in Western New York. There have been quite a few so far. The first screen has a page with writing on it, if you click on it, then in the top left corner click and go to edit, you can then upload and comment.
Please give you name and the location of the pic.
I may look to post it in here as well, what do you think?

Mark

Hi Dr. McPherson, it's good to hear from you, again; I do enjoy (re)connecting with NYIT colleagues on this network;

anyway, my school is phasing out and I need to secure a position, preferably before July; if you could be of some help, please let me know;

I plan to take some IT classes over the summer at a computer center, so my computer skills back up my teaching and graduate classes experience

Thank you, for your time and attention, I have started teaching this and I'm going to use it at the end of this month for my class to do several projects. All testing has been completed and now the principal said that we can. I also added my literature circle power point as well, I experimented with 3 different styles to allow for differentiated instuction. Some students are very artistic and some are not, so I allowed for the ones that weren't to cut and paste. Let me know what you think about this style.

Hi Dr. McPherson! Val gave me your syllabus and everyone caught me up basically on everything I missed in class on Thursday. Truthfully, I think I would have preferred to be in class on that day. Boston was exhausting! It was fun, but a lot of responsibility with so many kids. I will see you this Thursday!

Zarahusain,
Good luck in getting everything completed. I'm sure you are very busy with much to do although the end is near. I'm glad you are enjoying this Global Connnection network. When you go back to Pakistan maybe you will use something this, or a ning you set up yourself, to continue the connections. You are correct, now with IT we can keep up with IT. We hope to hear from you often.

Professor,
Do you want me to respond to discussions on Ning or in the discussion panel on BB, or both.
