Although I was born and brought up in America, mostly in NY, I am very much a "desi" as some would like to say. Both my parents are from Bombay, India. They came here to give their children a better life. Although they moved here and I was born here, I have stayed very true to my roots. I simply love Hindi songs and watching Bollywood Movies. If you ever get a chance or are interested, I will give you some suggestions as to which movie is great to watch. I am Gujarati, meaning my family is from the state of Gujarat in India. During Diwali we have a month of festivities. A festival that comes during Diwali is called Navratri. This is absolutely my favorite time of the year! Everyone from all over the tri-state area get together in different places and dance to a certain type of music. This gets us all ready for Diwali and the New Year! I don't know if any of you have faced this problem, but being brought up as an Indian but being immersed into the American culture has been a balancing act. Despite juggling two cultures, I must say I feel very fortunate to be able to speak another language and be a part of another culture. Going to India has opened my eyes in so many ways and learning how others live has been very educational and interesting. India is a beautiful place, very colorful, and full of so much culture! I am happy I can be a part of that. I will try to load up the dance onto the blog if I can put it onto the computer. Wish me luck!
