I am a native of Guyana, which is a country in South America. In fact it is the only English speaking country in South America. I come from a family of five boys and four girls. I am the last girl and the second-to-last child. I am a mother of three boys whose ages are 29, 16, and 9. I am also a grandmother of two girls. I am bilingual; I speak both English and Spanish. I learnt Spanish while being in Cuba for five years studying Veterinary Medicine. While there all of my studies were done in Spanish. I have traveled to many countries both on vacation and on official business on behalf of Government. I have traveled to the following countries: Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Dominica, Venezuela, Brazil, Columbia, Canada and England. Ironically, although I have done that much traveling, I really do not like traveling! I am in my third year of teaching in the United Stated ,although have lectured to adults in my native country in areas of veterinary medicine. Most of my formative and adult years have been spent in my native country of Guyana.

What would you advise others about teaching?
Teaching is a very noble profession; it is not a "job." Do not expect to receive your rewards immediately. You need to have a lot of patience and understanding. It is a profession where you are constantly changing hats, going from teacher, to parent, to counselor, and back again to teacher. If you are really dedicated to what you are doing the frustrations are not felt that much.
