Global Connections in Education 2008

Attached is a cartoon that I created with a proverb from Mexico. I found the proverb on the creative proverbs website and created this little cartoon around it. You'll see what the proverb is at the end of the slide show. Enjoy!

Corrine,
Thanks so much for your proverb truth about special needs students. Great analogy!

Corrine - great idea putting it on a power point! And so true about Special Education and its correlation in many different areas. We all are so eager to teach, teach, teach; especially with NCLB. Yet we forget about how to help our student’s problem solve and teach them what to do if they don't know what to do, or how to do it, or if they don't know the answer. And right now I am gearing this discussion to students who have more cognitive abilities than the students who I work with. They don't know what to do if they "fall off the bike" and teaching them how to get back on is an essential piece of education. There are some teachers who still teach this because they know that iit s best practice - but there are several other teachers who forget to teach students how to ask for help, encourage students to ask/explain it again if they don't understand the first time, demonstrate/model what students should do if they don't know the answer or how to complete something. Getting up on that bike again is hard...and unfortunately we are in a world where falling off the bike is "not good" -- its a sign of weakness, incapability, etc. However we need to change this perception - not only for our students with special needs but for all students.
-- Okay wow I went off on a tangent...hope that made sense to everyone... :-)
