The International Teaching and Learning Consortium is having a symposium April 9-11 in Orlando. It looks like a great opportunity for school leaders to become steeped in what it takes to prepare students for real-world success in the 21st century. I heard that there are a few seats left. EDUCATION FOR THE GLOBAL VILLAGE:
IMPLICATIONS OF GLOBALIZATION FOR EDUCATION REFORM with Yong Zhao. Thursday and Friday April 10 and 11 Anne Shaw will present THE 21st CENTURY SCHOOL in-depth. I'm going - it should be very informative!
Sounds great! I think the topics that will be discussed are interesting as well as relevant. I think the 2nd workshop (the 21st Century School) is the most useful out of the two. I am only judging by the description on the e-brochure. My reservations regarding the Education for the Global Village session are:
1. The competition mentality is not an absolute bad. Healthy competition leads to progress and innovation.
2. While it sounds like a noble aim to "prepare students with complementary skills instead of competing in the same domains such as math or science", how would we decide which skills are learned by this or that educational system? As Scott Mcnealy, CEO of Sun Systems, once said: "I am all for outsourcing, but one thing the US must never outsource is its thinking. "
It would be very interesting to see the details of the Education For The Global Village presentation.
I am sure this will informative and a great occasion to meet new people. Unfortunately I cannnot attend, but Dr. McPherson I wonder if they would consider coming to the Tri-state area. I also wonder if these presentations can be recorded and made available to those of us who are interested, but cannot attend.
This Learning Consortium sounds great. April 9th? I wonder since we are learning about technology, if this seminar can be vidoed and conferenced in? My husband does global video conferencing for Bear Stearns. I wonder if he can help. If you are interested in conferencing in based on the equipment that Orland has, maybe we can be apart of it. Please let me know if you are intersted and I will see what i can do.
What do you think?
